Honolulu's Jraww drops new sadboi vibe "Darkside"

3/28/2022

Yo wassup OTDHipHop Gvng!
Aloha from the 808, today we're featuring a locals only segment for our Music Monday block - Honolulu's own Jraww and his latest sadboi joint "Darkside," which just released a few weeks ago. In this new era of emo and punk rap, it's no surprise that Hawaii's hip hop scene would also be introducing some new teenage artists and other young artists on the same vibe, with Jraww being part of this new wave and energy. Check out "Darkside" below on Soundcloud; it's also available on all music streaming platforms, along with the rest of Jraww's growing discography.
Jraww · Darkside
Jraww got inspired to make "Darkside," following his other track "Darkness," which he already has a music video for.
The artist states, "I just love that I'm able to kinda connect two songs. 'Darkside' is a vibe about feeling alone, lonely, and trapped in the dark. " Jraww credits Dareese Develops for directing his music video for "Darkside," producer Stood, and DJ Ideas for mixing+mastering.

Originally from the ATL, Jraww's influences range from rap and trap sounds like Lil Wayne, Drake, Travis Scott, and T-Pain along with punk and metal styles like Marilyn Manson, Linkin Park, and My Chemical Romance.  Born in 1998, his rap career started when he was a teenager by beginning to release mixtapes in 2016 and continues to drop music, visuals, merch, and more for his fans and supporters.

Hawaiian Artist from Maui, Thrizzy Thrizz Interview

9/27/2021

Yo what's good OTDHipHop fam!
I'm so excited to share this new interview with Thrizzy Thrizz, a Kanaka Maoli (Native Hawaiian) hip hop artist from the island of Maui. He's another long-time homie of mine in the music grind. We first met at a show in Lahaina back in 2016. He's been featured on OTDHipHop a few times. It's always nice to catch up with fellow emcees in the local scene especially during this pandemic. Thrizzy is no stranger to the hustle and motivation it takes to push his music coming outta the HI, from songs about love & relationships to records that speak on real issues affecting his community.  Check out our full exclusive interview below:

OTDHipHop:
How's the pandemic been for you? Has anything challenged you as an artist?
 Thrizzy:
"Honestly, I did my best to play it smart with my choices pertaining to business during this pandemic. I took some time to reinvest into new music equipment and putting more into building Thrizzy Thrizz into a brand. I do believe the lack of live shows because of the pandemic did change the game. I see more artists in general doing more live web shows... And in a way, I feel like it always helps with attracting more listeners cause thanks to the internet, it's now global a show. I mean, it's not the same experience but any real artist/ entrepreneur will make that pivot."
OTDHipHop: What's your creative process like?
Thrizzy: "My creative process is 24/7. My wheels are always turning. But as far as actually creating a track. Burn and I will have a whole session of us just coming up with beat, feeding off of each other's energy and ideas. And then I'll come up with some hooks and it just goes from there."

OTDHipHop:
What made you taking music seriously?
Thrizzy: "I started taking my music serious at the age of 18. I just got out of high school, I had my first job bussing tables and I told myself that that just wasn't it for me. And it was either gonna be this or that. And then I met Burn Bangatrax the CEO of Foreela Ent. and Carma Reigns. And they took me under their wing."
OTDHipHop: What and/or who inspires you to write/create?
Thrizzy: "
I honestly pull my inspiration from different places. Sometimes it's from current or past situations. Maybe through emotions or thoughts that I felt or had through out the day. Maybe it's the way the beat makes me feel or think." ""

OTDHipHop: What is your message?
Thrizzy: "If you can conceive it in the mind, you can surely achieve it in the physical. Never give up, no matter what. Your mind is powerful."

OTDHipHop: What do you want people to remember you for?
Thrizzy: "Not giving up. My love for my people and my community. My work ethic. And most importantly my music."
Picture
OTDHipHop: Got any new projects or shows that you'd like to promote? Please let us know!
Thrizzy: "We are currently promoting my latest single "Rock Yo Body" featuring Assault Squad Riderz, and my latest music video for "Sunsets". Both tracks are produced by Burn Bangatrax."

Yo wassup OTDHipHop gang!

We are back in full effect, not that we ever left... I know I haven't been live on our Instagram page for almost 3 months nor have I blogged much, but I've been working on other projects. On top of that, the pandemic is still very real. However, ff you haven't heard already, our podcast just launched back in January, with 2 episodes already out now! Live-stream interviews will resume this month. Any artist interested in hopping on our Wednesday night live-stream, feel free to hit me up on Instagram (@OTDHipHop) or send me an email: officialotdhiphop@gmail.com. As always, thank you for supporting this platform! Lots more content and projects on the way...

Kicking off Spring 2021, we got Mac Bone's brand new drop "What I Want." It's refreshing to vibe to Mac Bone's latest release, which features a laid-back classic vibe with cool and clever lyricism. The beat, rhymes, and flow all come together so effortlessly. This track is a quick lil' bop, somethin' to keep you company and chilled, during your quarantine work day or  420 smoke sessions. Mac Bone is always keepin' it real with his easy going rhymes; painting pictures of his daily life and personal growth. I dig the nostalgic energy on this track and video a lot!
Speaking of the video, this is a hella tight visual! Shout out Wayne Jones from YSFilmz on the clean and simple shots, featuring some dope effects. I feel like this video captures Mac Bone's style to da' max! I love how Mac stays real to his Hawaii beginnings, rocking the The HiLites Crew (THC) sweater and youthful swag. Big ups to Mac Bone doin' his thing in North Carolina! The overall project is super solid and I'm glad to feature it on the blog. Check out "What I Want" on Youtube and subscribe to Mac Bone's channel!
