What is your artist name? My name is Toriyama from a collective called "Kurse Krew". 2. What city/state/country are you reppin'? Oakland, CA, USA 3. How old are you? I'm 29 years old. 4. How long have you been creating or making music? When did you start? Off & on for about a decade. I'd say I've taken it a little more seriously the last couple years. Being patient in areas I've never been before. 5. What song/video/project are you currently promoting? I dropped a collab tape last fourth of July with my guy AjGod, called "Krew Entertainment". That is available on all streaming platforms such as iTunes, Spotify, Tik Tok, etc.
6. What and/or who inspires to write/create? I get inspired by the people around me. Seeing the choices people in my neighborhood create for themselves. 7. What is your creative process like? Pretty much on the go. I don't necessarily have much of a creative space lol. There's a park not far from me where I can usually write in a good space. 8. How often do you perform live? Please state any upcoming performances you have. I performed a couple times last year. In Oakland. This year I do plan on stepping that up a bit. 9. When did you start taking music more seriously, and why? Past couple of years, I wouldn't say I necessarily took music serious. I just took myself more serious, and the people around me. 10. What do you want people to remember you for? Creating a new culture. Appreciated and accepted by past & future generations. 11. How can people find you? 6. What and/or who inspires you to write/create?
I can't say it's one particular thing or person that inspires me, I catch inspiration from things on a daily basis. Whether it be situations I go through, or just maybe a funny story I heard, I try to draw inspiration from everything around me. 7. What is your creative process like? I really prefer creating by myself most of the time honestly. Gotta have me a little sack to roll up, something good on the TV as well, that's when I'm in my element really. And I don't really write anymore so I'll hear a beat, just cycle through ideas in my head until I find the right way I want to come on it.
8. When did you start taking your music career seriously, and why?
I'd say about 2 and a half years ago. I always have wanted to be involved with music ‘cause I'm really passionate about it, but it’s like up to that point I really was just treating it as a hobby. Then around 2017-2018 I really started going hard with it, learning to record and mix my own vocals, then at that point the ball was rolling, and it just hasn't stopped since. 9. 10. What do you want people to remember you for?
I want to be remembered as one of the few who did it for the love of the music. I want people to be able to say they were inspired by me, by my story. I want to be able to show people that you can do whatever you want to do if you just put your mind to it. 11. What is your message? Kind of going off of that last question, I would say my message is you can be whatever you want to be in life. You can do whatever you want to do in life, no matter what the world might say. Just keep going, apply yourself and (not to sound corny) but anything is possible. Sometimes I have to go back and tell myself that if I get down in the dumps, but that's really true. Lastly, just have fun, we only here for one lifetime so go as hard as you can, have as much fun as you can.
12. How can people find you? Please provide links to all of your social media.

Aloha OTDHipHop fam, We're back with another one of our Track Tuesday segments. Today we're featuring a new song called "Positive Energy" by Edwin Miguel (@IAMED_CALLMEWIN). Overall I really dig the unique throwback vibe. The lyrics and delivery are very poetic, with a dope positive message. I think the flow could be a little bit tighter but other than that I really like the swag and vibe. I like that it's a live recording too. IAMED_CALLMEWIN (aka Edwin Miguel) is an emcee, DJ, and videographer from Long Beach, CA. He currently resides in Honolulu, HI and is making his way around the local scene, popping up often at open mics and other hip hop shows. Aloha OTDHipHop fam! Hope y'all are digging the new website and checking out all of our different content. We are back to our regular schedule:
Over the weekend, we had the chance to listen to “Liquid Smoke,” the first ever album release from Kurbside Worldwide. The album features various Kurbside artists, producers, and some friends (including myself and Lord Jordvn). Overall, I actually enjoyed this project. The beat selection was mostly hype and trap, which fits their vibe. But a few of their songs did switch it up, like “Anniversary” for example, had a more lofi vibe. I think Kurbside as a whole still has a lot to work on when it comes to their different artist development, but they are definitely starting on a strong foot. To be honest, some of the tracks were “skippable” but that could be my own preference. I found some of the beats, lyrical content, and styles repetitive. However, some tracks that I do feel stood out were “Anniversary,” “Clap,” “Baby Boy,” and Concrete Jungles.”
With that said, aside from Astreaux Guillotine (Kurbside’s CEO and most-experienced artist), I believe MattThompson910, ALXB13, Kaira Flo, and Sly Bandz stood out the most when it came to delivery and bars. Mezmer’s lyricism and delivery was dope too but some of his content I found somewhat gimmicky. I could hear Eminem and Logic in his flows, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but I think he has more work to do in forming his own original sound. Shouts out to Mezmer for engineering most of the album too! Some of the tracks were also engineered by BobbyMyEngineer. Lastly, I would love to add my song “Trippy” as a personal favorite but that’s just bias because it’s my track. Lol. I would even call “Meet Me Here” my favorite track, but that could be largely because of Astreaux’s shout out. Haha! Again, I believe MattThompson910 probably showed the most strength and versatility as an emcee on this album.
A major critique I have for “Liquid Smoke” is that with it being Kurbside’s first official project, I wanted to hear more about Kurbside’s story, whether collectively or from the individual artists. Some questions I had as a fan are: Who/What is Kurbside? What are their goals? What do they stand for? Personally, I’m a fan of Kurbside. But if I wasn’t, and I listened to the album, I’m not sure if I would become an instant fan. Regardless, there are some bangers and flows that stood out. I feel like Astreaux essentially carried the team on this project, which is understandable being that he is the main leader. On the next project though, I’d like to hear more from the other artists. Still, I’m excited for more tracks and projects from Kurbside and their individual artists. In fact, Yung 6’s first EP “Iridescence” is actually out today as well! I’m stoked for “Liquid Smoke” two, and I look forward to witnessing the growth of Kurbside Worldwide both collectively and individually.
